Description

You enter a communal low lit dining area with long wooden tables stretching the length of the room. Instantly your senses are captured as aromatic South-East Asian spices fill the air. You came to dine, share plates and explore flavours and you quickly realise you chose the right place. Moments later your table fills with a carefully constructed banquet featuring dishes such as “Betel leaf, spanner crab, mango, chilli, mint” and “caramelised pork hock with five spices and chilli jam”. You take a sip of caipiroska to cleanse your palate and the adventure begins...

Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, Longrain is for social food lovers who enjoy a great spread with friends. Combine that with its 18 year stretch of hats, awards and consistent taste knockouts, you’re in for a treat.

This was our third visit to Longrain and our second time ordering the set menu. We added on the snapper as well as it's one of our favorites. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. Overall we enjoyed the experience and the dishes were all very tasty as we remembered from before. We had one member in our group who was pregnant and the restaurant does accommodate to this but offering alternative dishes that are safe to eat in place of those on the set menu that aren't. Unfortunately she said that these alternative dishes were not nearly as good as the normal menu items. She wasn't able to finish the bamboo dish as the bamboo was too strong of a taste for her (this was the alternative to the betel leaf dish). For the rest of us we really enjoyed all of the dishes and would definitely come back again some time.

Celebrated a birthday dinner here. Everything we had was amazing. We shared about 6 dishes. Sautéed Chinese vegetables, fried chicken, beef curry, fried snapper and tomato salad. Couldn’t rave about this place enough. Service staff was friendly and very attentive as well.

Came here as a solo traveller, was quickly accommodated. Had a confit king salmon with peanut and watermelon, The coconut and and all other ingredients seem to be overpowered the taste of the watermelon but still leaves some hint of refreshments from the water melon. The peanut is soften so it created nice combo texture with the soft fish. Not spicy at all. The seafood spring roll has a really flaky and crispy skin to it. Eating while hot is recommended. Dipped into the lime chili sauce bring up the summer festival on your pallete. White fish and salmon were a nice combo. Totally not the normal traditional Thai spring roll. The silken tofu was kinda a big let down. The glutenous skin was way too salty, as tofu basically has no taste but just silken texture. So it's just a blend silken tofu as I picked out the skin.

Delicious food and lovely service. Everything we ordered was so flavoursome, the crispy whole snapper and the tuna sashimi special we ordered were the favourites. The only downside when we dined was that the service was quite slow, from both topping up drinks to food delivery but the great food and customer service made up for it. The coconut icecream is so beautifully smooth and white, it was also delicious.

Came here after waiting for a non-event at Chin Chin down the road. So happy we did. Amazing service. Delicious food which was generous and well paced throughout the night. Definitely coming back!

Don’t tell me your debit machine is “that type of particular machine” that requires me to input info and isn’t just tap, just so I’ll use it and feel obligated to give you a tip. Douchey. You’re taking advantage of people. Also didn’t like the service from the moment we walked up. The front door is very confusing - doesn’t look like a main door. We didn’t want to barge in where we shouldn’t so, we dithered outside trying to figure it out. I’m sure this is an issue for many people and multiple staff stood inside watching us. Nobody likes walking into a restaurant feeling silly - and we all did - and the staff (who no doubt had this issue all the time) was rude. Get over yourselves. Food was fine. Eat the beef curry. Or give the restaurant a miss... they likely won’t care if you do. There’s a lot of pretty good food in this city, you can definitely have a better experience.

Never disappoints. Had my hens here on Saturday night. Can't recommend it enough. Always been a fan, whether it's the Melbourne or the Sydney one, both are fantastic. Great service, great use of space, yummy cocktails and the crispy pork belly is a must! Best in Sydney.

Friendly staff, lovely ambience and absolutely delicious food. We went for the banquet as we had a large group of 10. By the 4th meal we were all so full! Definitely worth doing it as we got to try a variety of dishes that we wouldn't have otherwise picked. It was awesome that were also able to cater to our vegetarian eaters, with every course that had meat or fish they would create a dish that catered to their needs too.

The first time I came to Longrain was roughly 9 years ago, and the served amazing food. And when I came back recently to celebrate my friend's B-Day, they did another amazing food. Never fail! Keep up the good work Longrain, love your signature betel leaves, a must try dish in this resto 😘🍃
